Synchronized Multimedia for the WWW

In Proceedings of the 7th International World Wide Web Conference (WWW7), Brisbane, Australia, April 14-18, 1998. Computer Networks and ISDN Systems, 30(1-7):417-429, April 1998

Wednesday 1 April 1998

We propose temporal extensions to HTML that allow seamless integration of synchronized multimedia into WWW documents. The extensions are based on three concepts: hypertime links for temporal composition, common time bases for close lip-sync synchronization between media objects, and dynamic layout. We have designed a flexible execution architecture to support the concepts and exprimented with play back of simple synchronized presentations.
