Our paper explores the issue of how to provide appropriate quality of service mechanisms incompatible with mobility in wireless local area networks. We present a hierarchical QoS architecture that extends Differentiated Services (DiffServ) to mobile hosts in a wireless environment. Our approach is based on controlling several parameters of a wireless LAN cell: the limited geographical span to ensure the same high bit rate for all hosts, the constrained rate of traffic sources and the limited number of active hosts in each cell. We give some details of experiments to show the quality of service differentiation over the 802.11b network.

Ce papier explore le problème de l’intégration de mécanismes de qualité de service compatible avec la mobilité dans les réseaux locaux sans-fil. Nous présentons une architecture de qualité de service hiérarchique qui étend les services différenciés (DiffServ) aux hôtes mobiles dans un environnement sans-fil. Notre approche est basée sur le contrôle de plusieurs paramètres des cellules sans-fil : zone de couverture limitée pour assurer à tous les hôtes le même débit élevé, limitation du débit de chaque source de trafic, et limitation du nombre d’hôtes admis dans chaque cellule. Nous présentons des résultats d’expérimentation mettant en évidence la différenciation de service sur un réseau 802.11b.
